Rome City walking Tour || Rome: The Soul of Italy”| Italy Rome City 🇮🇹 #romecity #romecityitaly #walkingworld 🏛️ History of Rome, Italy – “The Eternal City” 1. Founding and Myth (753 BCE) According to legend, Rome was founded by Romulus on April 21, 753 BCE. The story says that Romulus and his twin brother Remus were raised by a she-wolf and later founded the city on the Palatine Hill. Romulus became its first king after killing Remus. --- 2. The Roman Kingdom (753–509 BCE) Early Rome was ruled by kings — both Latin and Etruscan. This period established many of Rome’s early institutions, religion, and traditions. In 509 BCE, Romans overthrew their last king, Tarquinius Superbus, and established a Republic. --- 3. The Roman Republic (509–27 BCE) Rome expanded through alliances and wars, conquering much of Italy. It became a powerful republic governed by elected officials like consuls and senators. Famous leaders like Julius Caesar, Pompey, and Cicero shaped its destiny. Internal conflicts, including Caesar’s rise and assassination in 44 BCE, led to the fall of the Republic. 4. The Roman Empire (27 BCE–476 CE) In 27 BCE, Octavian (Augustus) became the first Roman Emperor, marking the start of the Roman Empire. Rome became the capital of the largest empire in ancient history — spanning Europe, North Africa, and parts of Asia. Great emperors like Augustus, Trajan, and Hadrian built monumental structures — the Colosseum, Pantheon, and Roman Forum. Christianity, once persecuted, became the empire’s official religion under Emperor Constantine in the 4th century CE. --- 5. Decline and Fall (5th Century CE) The Western Roman Empire weakened due to invasions, corruption, and economic troubles. In 476 CE, the empire fell when Odoacer, a Germanic leader, deposed Romulus Augustulus, the last emperor. --- 6. Medieval Rome (500–1400 CE) After the fall, Rome remained central to Christianity. The Pope became the city’s leader, and Rome became the spiritual capital of Europe. The Vatican and St. Peter’s Basilica became major centers of pilgrimage. --- 7. Renaissance and Modern Rome (1400–Present) Rome flourished again during the Renaissance, with artists like Michelangelo and Raphael creating masterpieces. In 1871, after Italy’s unification, Rome became the capital of the Kingdom of Italy. Today, it is the capital of the Italian Republic, known for its art, architecture, and ancient heritage. --- 🕊️ Rome Today Modern Rome blends the ancient and the modern — the Colosseum and Roman Forum stand beside lively cafes and piazzas. It remains a global symbol of history, culture, and faith.
