A jury found Karen Read not guilty of second-degree murder Wednesday in the death of her Boston police officer boyfriend but guilty of a lesser charge of drunk driving. The jury handed down its decision after deliberating for at least 22 hours since Friday. Mark Bederow, a criminal defense attorney and former prosecutor, joins "Banfield" to analyze the case. Also, at Wednesday's Bryan Kohberger hearing, defense attorney Anne Taylor pushed to delay the Aug. 11 trial, citing overwhelming evidence and jury bias amid media leaks. She warned moving forward could violate Kohberger’s rights and lead to an appeal. The judge didn’t rule but signaled skepticism. A separate closed-door session addressed the defense’s claim of an alternate suspect, though no decision has been made. Then, criminal defense attorney Alexandra Kazarian joins NewsNation to discuss former police chief and convicted rapist and murderer Grant Hardin, who pleaded not guilty to escape charges despite being caught on camera fleeing prison and later being recaptured in nearby woods. Finally, an indictment has been unsealed in the case of former Illinois high school teacher Christina Formella, who faces dozens of new charges for allegedly sexually abusing a student. Abby Escobar, a true-crime digital creator known as Abby Blabby, joins “Banfield” to discuss what transpired in court this week.
