I've talked before about using cheap used thin clients from eBay for projects, but here I put together 3 of them as a high availability cluster with Proxmox. I walk through the setup of the most basic cluster, high availability, live migration, etc. without touching on advanced network configuration. The cluster is fully functional, able to run VMs and CTs, live migration works, and we can play with high availability migration between nodes. Using cheap hardware like this is a great way to experiment with high availability and clustering concepts without spending a fortune on hardware, but it's probably not a realistic solution if you actually want to do any significant amount of real work. Blog post on the topic: https://www.apalrd.net/posts/2022/clu... My Discord server: / discord If you find my content useful and would like to support me, feel free to here: https://ko-fi.com/apalrd I know I mentioned $35 each and you'll call me out for building a $105 cluster, but the seller offered 10% off on 2 or more units, so I ended up paying $99 including shipping (one at full price + an order for 2 at 10% off). Deals on the 5060 come and go, but the much more common 3040 and a lot of lower end thin clients definitely do not have enough RAM to run Proxmox with VMs. If you have the 3040 you'll probably have to stick with some sort of container based virtualization (either Proxmox with LXC, Docker, Kubernetes, ...).
