In late-January 2026 Metro's inspection train with the converted ECOM Comeng carriages 'Evette' and IEV120 'Evie' made their first inspection runs around the network since testing between the pair was completed in mid-2025. On the 26th January 2026 Evette and Evie visited Alamein, Ringwood, and Craigieburn. In this video we chase Evette and Evie; seeing them at the Riversdale Tram Square and Hartwell on the Alamein Line, Mont Albert near Union station, and Chatham on the Belgrave/Lilydale lines, and Kensington on the Craigieburn Line. Evette consists of Comeng carriages 585M-586M & 633M-634M that were retired from passenger service in May 2025 and specifically converted to haul Evie in a push-pull configuration, while Evie is a Geismar RB2214TM track and overhead inspection vehicle that has been in service since 2021. Previously diesel locomotives including Southern Shorthaul Railroad T & P Class locmotives were used to haul Evie around the network. Now though Evette is being used to haul Evie around the network, especially as it can visit locations where diesels cannot such as the newly opened Metro Tunnel.
