Large crowds queue to pay last respects to Shillong MP

A large crowd gathered in long queues to pay their last respects to Shillong Lok Sabha MP Ricky Andrew J. Syngkon at the residence of his late mother in Pohkseh on Friday. In a rare show of public mourning, people from different walks of life thronged the residence to offer floral tributes and express condolences to the bereaved family. Apart from common citizens, several political leaders and well-wishers also visited the residence to pay homage to the departed parliamentarian. Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma, accompanied by his wife Mehtab Chandee Agitok Sangma, offered floral tributes and conveyed condolences to the family. Former minister Kyrmen Shylla, along with several other political leaders, also paid homage, remembering Syngkon as a humble and dedicated public representative. The mortal remains will be shifted from his mother’s residence to his residence at Nongsder in Umiam on Friday afternoon, while the funeral is scheduled to be held on Saturday.
