Derwent Television was one of several TV and radio rental companies in the town centre till the 90s. Under the name Central Equipment Ltd, it originally made radios for lease at its factory in Perivale before branching out into television sets. The company was so called after its founder, Henry Fletcher moved into "Derwent House" Liverpool for its headquarters. Fletcher apparently liked the name and used it for his company brand, going on to name the lines of his TVs after rivers in the Lake District. The Times Furnishing Company Ltd were well known for their art-deco buildings in city centre locations such as Birmingham and Manchester and its Ilford store was built around 1928. Sadly the period building did not survive into the 80s and the one shown in this episode is a rebuild with little architectural merit. The rest of the parade has survived since approx. the 1930s and in 2019-2020, underwent repair and redecorations. It now shows off a new all-white central frontage above Waterstone's.
