Black Bart's Code - Bartholomew Roberts - Sea Shanty / Pirate Style Song (Lyrics)

Black Bart's Code A song about the pirate code of Captain Bartholomew Roberts, also known as Black Bart, the most successful plunderer of the Seven Seas during the early 18th century. Part of the playlist Pirate Legends:    • The Last Stand of Blackbeard - Pirate...   Lyrics: [Instrumental bridge] [Verse 1] Oh, gather 'round, ye hearty crew, a tale I'll tell tonight, Of Black Bart's code, so fierce and true, that guided us in fight. With equal say, and rations fair, we sailed upon the seas, Strong liquor’s sip and fresh-caught fish, we shared them all with ease. But should the bounty start to wane, a vote would see us through, For common good we'd trim the sails, our trust as strong as glue. Each man a vote, a voice, a hand, in moments big and small, This be the code of Black Bart bold, who led us one and all. [Chorus] Sing high, sing low, the winds do blow, Black Bart's our guiding star, His laws we heed on every deed, no matter near or far. With cutlass bright, we stand and fight, his code we do uphold, For Roberts' name, we'll stake our claim, and sail with hearts so bold. [Instrumental interlude] [Verse 2] To plunder ships and claim the gold, each man would take his turn, But cheat the crew of even one coin, and marooned you’d be, we'd learn. No gambling games with dice or cards, no luck could change your fate, For every man must earn his keep, and fortune wouldn't wait. At eight bells sharp, the lights go dim, no candles left to burn, But if you thirst, then to the deck, in darkness you must turn. No women, boys, or traitor’s tongue aboard this ship you'll find, For those who stray, their lives must pay, left on the shore behind. [Instrumental interlude] [Verse 3] Our weapons gleamed, our blades so keen, all ready for the fray, No man would shirk, or dare desert, when battle called our way. Should quarrels rise among the crew, the shore would see them through, With pistols drawn and blood soon spilled, the victor stood anew. No talk of ending pirate life till riches we had won, For those who bled, or lost a limb, from treasure we'd refund. The spoils we’d split by rank and skill, the captain took his due, But every man, both high and low, received his honest view. [Instrumental interlude] [Chorus] Sing high, sing low, the winds do blow, Black Bart's our guiding star, His laws we heed on every deed, no matter near or far. With cutlass bright, we stand and fight, his code we do uphold, For Roberts' name, we'll stake our claim, and sail with hearts so bold. [Instrumental interlude] [Verse 4] On Sabbath Day, the music stopped, a rest for all to take, But on the morn, the fiddles played, for joy and freedom’s sake. So sail we did, through storm and calm, with Roberts' code in hand, A legacy, a pirate’s creed, that ruled both sea and land. For Black Bart’s law, we lived and died, in glory and in shame, His name lives on, as tales are spun, of fortune and of fame. So raise the flag, the Jolly bold, and let the cannons roar, For Black Bart’s code will guide us still, on every distant shore. [Instrumental interlude] [End] Notification: In the 6th image, you can see Roberts' flag, which depicts the captain toasting with Death. (He later used other flags as well.)    / @cybergramophonestudio   © 2024 CyberGramophone Studio
