Their body colors can range from bright red to brown. Regular clover mite activity won’t cause visible damage to your turf, but populations can dramatically increase if your lawn is over-fertilized. If this happens, you’ll see infested patches of grass and plants turn brown and wilt. If these sites are close to your home, then you may even see large numbers of mites within your living space. Check the perimeter of your structure for patches of brown turf, dense patches of green turf, shrubs, and plants. Take note of these sites and continue to do an up close inspection to confirm for clover mite activity. Clover mites are tiny, so you’ll have to pay close attention to look for any moving red specks. A few clover mites is normal for any lawn, but if you’re finding large clusters of clover mites in an area, then that’s cause for action. If you're finding clover mites indoors, take note of where you’re seeing them, then inspect the outer perimeter for nearby entry points like doors, windows, vents, and other cracks and crevices in the wall. Be careful not to crush any clover mites, as that may leave a red stain. To get control of your clover mite infestation, you’ll need to use an insecticide labeled for clover mite control like Reclaim IT. To treat for clover mites around your structure, we recommend using a pump sprayer, since it can be used for quick and precise applications around the exterior of your home. You’ll treat ornamentals and your structure’s perimeter with an application rate of 0.33 - 0.5 fluid ounces of Reclaim IT per 1,000 square feet of treatment area. Since you’ll be making targeted spot and barrier treatments, we recommend using a 1 gallon handheld pump sprayer. First, spray the entry points you’ve noted around the outside of your home like doors, windows, vent openings, and other voids in the wall. Once you’ve treated entry points, conduct a perimeter treatment around your structure. After you treat your structure, treat ornamental plants on your property for total control of clover mites. You may want to test your plants’ sensitivity to the product before committing to this treatment. Be sure to conduct followup treatments of Reclaim IT every 3 months to ensure total control year-round.
