Once my dad and I arrived at Plattsburgh, NY, we had a lot of time to kill before we could check into our hotel, so we decided to explore the city a little. We soon made our way to the shore of Lake Champlain, which provided an amazing view of Vermont and the distant mountain range. Of particular note is Mount Mansfield, the tallest mountain in Vermont. After getting a good look at the lake, I began walking around and discovered the Pont Commemoration Bridge, a suspension bridge carrying a walkway across the Saranac River. From here, I walked down Cumberland Avenue towards Lake Champlain where I came across the Samuel Champlain Monument. This area also provided another great view of the lake. Oddly enough, there was also a staircase leading into the water. The next day, we returned to the area around the lake for the solar eclipse. Since we got there early enough to avoid traffic coming into the city, I spent some more time walking around. This time, I made sure to get a good look at the Macdonough Mounument, dedicated to the victory of Comodore Thomas Macdonough during the Battle of Plattsburgh in 1814. Just across the street from the monument is Plattsburgh City Hall. Finally, we see a directory sign at the corner of Cumberland Avenue and Miller Street.
