German soldiers were famous for their machine guns, but when they captured the British Bren after Dunkirk, they liked it so much they printed manuals in German and issued it to their own troops. This video tells the full story of a gun that served continuously for over 70 years. You will learn how the Bren evolved from a Czechoslovak design, why the curved magazine existed because of rimmed British ammunition, and what made soldiers joke that it was "too bloody accurate for a machine gun." The video covers the engineering that let the gun keep firing even after the recoil springs broke and the receiver cracked during testing, and why experienced gunners loaded 27 rounds instead of 30 to avoid feeding problems. The second half follows the Bren from the disaster at Dunkirk through North Africa, where its precision let gunners place five-round bursts with almost the same grouping as aimed single shots. You get the story of Corporal Thomas Hunter who sprinted 200 yards across open ground under fire from nine German machine guns, clearing positions alone with his Bren before deliberately drawing fire onto himself so his men could advance. The video ends with the gun's postwar service, including the Korean War where both sides used versions of the same design, and Indian soldiers still carrying it into combat as late as 2009. 0:00 Origins and the Czechoslovak ZB26 5:02 Dunkirk and German use of captured Brens 8:36 Combat performance and British tactics 12:40 Postwar service through 2012 Script written by: / andreja-rakocevic Contact: unbelievabletruestories.contact@yahoo.com © Unbelievable True Stories 2025 Unbelievable True Stories covers the forgotten and surprising corners of history.
