Why Sea-Watch?

At its core, sea rescue is very simple; protecting human life. But in the Mediterranean Sea, it has become an overly politicised topic. The realities of Search & Rescue (SAR) on this deadly border are increasingly complex, because of the current political climate of polarisation in Europe. Migration-related issues are being instrumentalised in populist and racist political discourse. This is a series with three parts in which civil sea rescue is explained simply: What does a rescue look like? Who are relevant SAR actors in the Mediterranean?
