I love a steam punk anything, particularly as it seems completely impossible to do with polymer clay, because, well....it's clay. And here we are for the second instalment of a steam punk thing that took me about 10 hours (I really should stop watching series in the background ;) Video Features -Steam punk bird with cogs -How to make the wings -How to add decoration with mica & GLITTER!! -Adding the bird to a book Tools: -Black polymer clay -Gold and bright blue mica -Dotting tools, tissue blade, craft knife Baking Polymer Clay: UK instructions for baking- it's all in Celsius not Fahrenheit, which is why I don't always quote times & temperatures. I recommend using Polymer Clay packet instructions. However a good tip is to bake no higher than 100 degrees Celsius. It's better to bake at a lower temperature for longer, than higher for shorter. Larger clay items need longer- always check after 10 mins- sometimes things fall over in the oven & can be rescued at this point. Watch for burning! Especially white as it's quick to burn (don't know why...) and can turn yellow! Once out of the oven wait for it to cool before thinking it's baked- if it feels soft to touch, you can poke a finger nail in it or a finger print, back in the oven it goes! Electric ovens work better as the temperature is even, gas oven temperatures fluctuate do not keep a steady temp for baking polymer clay.
