production.glazierdrive.com/library Baltimore Ravens Special Teams Assistant TJ Weist - Punt Gunner Release Techniques Versus Single Single Release: The Single Release is a Speed Release. Attack the defender. When releasing outside, attack the inside leverage of the corner, stick and release outside. Releasing inside jab the outside foot at the Corner then run inside. If the Corner overplays a side, the Gunner will attack his leverage to make him tum his hips. If a release lane appears take it with speed. Stacking: The Gunners use a Stack technique to place and keep the blocker behind them. This puts the Gunner in position to make the tackle or draw an IBW penalty. The Gunner will use his arms, hands and speed to gain position with his hips in front of the blocker's hips. This will keep the corner 'out of phase'. It is very similar to a basketball player using his body underneath the hoop to establish position for a rebound (i.e., boxing out) Versus Vise Speed Release (In or Out): Direction step, cross over and run. Keep your eyes on the near defender. Beat him first. Steel Rod: The Steel Rod is a stiff arm to create separation and control the blocker. Also used for leverage to turn upfield. The Steel Rod is a full speed technique. Do not slow down! Chop: The Gunner will Chop down defenders wrist while sprinting through the Speed Release. Repeat as necessary. The Chop is a full speed technique. Do not slow down! Swipe: In the running motion swipe (flip) hand over/under the defenders wrist to prevent the jam/steel rod on your shoulder Rip: The Gunner will Rip the shoulder under the blocker's hands/shoulder to clear the hips then down thru in the running motion. The Rip is a full speed technique. Do not slow down
