RM90 Ballast Cleaner Refurbishment | Rhomberg Sersa Rail Group Ireland

Between December 2019 and March 2020, Rhomberg Sersa Ireland refurbished Iarnród Éireann / Irish Rail's RM90 Plasser & Theurer Ballast Cleaner – a massive, complex machine that had served the network tirelessly for years. The project was carried out at Irish Rail’s Inchicore Works, led by Peter Watson (Rhomberg Sersa Ireland) and Ian Sempers (Neil Thorne Engineering), with valuable support from Rhomberg Sersa North America. Both the "factory" and "train" elements of the machine required extensive attention. Thanks to incredible teamwork, technical know-how, and winter dedication, the RM90 was fully refurbished and returned to service in top condition by March 2020. This video captures not only the size and power of the machine but also the pride of the crew who worked on it – and their bittersweet farewell when it rolled back into operation.
