LOB29 is Union Pacific's Chino Local, a job that originates at Montclair Yard, that runs westward along the LA Sub, and then down the Chino Industrial Lead to service industries in Pomona, and Chino. Today I did a comprehensive chase of this job and followed it throughout its course to show a lesser-known element of railroading in the Pomona Valley. I started on the Los Angeles Subdivision mainline at the Pomona Downtown Metrolink station. Ever since the abolition of the nighttime Chino Local (LOB48), LOB29 now is responsible for switching Manke Trucking in Pomona several times per week. It dropped off seven loaded centerbeams in exghange for three empties, before pulling eastward to WO Tower, where it would diverge down the Chino Branch. After catching it a few times along the way, the second stop of the day is Eco Materials Technology, a cement supplier in Pomona, that takes in loaded hoppers of fly ash. Two loads in, two loads out, and the local then proceeded south to Chino. Due to the nature of the Chino Branch, the train has to pull forward into Downtown Chino, before shoving down the branch to access the bulk of the Chino industries, and I caught it streetrunning with this shove move. Their third switch of the dat was at Parr Lumber Co., where they pulled out an empty centerbeam. Next was Ninestar Tech., where they dropped off one hopper of plastic pellets. They then wyed the train and went back over to the same area to switch Berry Plastics, the largest customer on the Chino Branch, where they dropped another hopper of plastic pellets, and pulled out four empties. That was it for the job, and it was time to head back north to Montclair. I caught it back at the streetrunning, and several other places on the branch, before seeing them reenter the mainline at WO Tower, before shoving to Montclair. Thanks for watching!
