KDF MENTORS M-PESA FOUNDATION ACADEMY STUDENTS The Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) alongside other disciplined forces held a mentorship session at the M-Pesa Foundation Academy in Nairobi on Friday, 14 June 2019. Military officials interacted with students explaining the various activities, roles and mandates of various services within the KDF. Kenya Army’s Major Richard King’ori took the students through various activities executed by the Kenya Defence Forces in order to achieve its mandate as a security organ in the country further elaborating the mandate, roles and the structure of the Kenya Army (KA). Kenya Air Force’s Major Peter Obare explained the various tasks and activities of the force and how they support the sister services. He also shared what it takes to join the Kenya Air Force (KAF). Major Erick Wambugu from the Kenya Navy (KN) explained that his service has a mandate to protect the nation from external threats emanating from the sea, protect the state’s territorial waters as well as provide support to sister services. Further, mentorship from Major Josephat Kirema (KN) Major John Wainaina (KA), Captain Nismat Mutua (KAF), Captain Samwel Ndewa (KAF) and Captain Valentine Mung’ata (KA) enlightened the students on different career specializations within the KDF. Other disciplined forces in the mentorship exercise were the General Service Unit (GSU), Kenya Prisons, Kenya Police Service and National Youth Service.
