The South of the Island has many fine views to behold, one of the best viewpoints is Meayll Hill (or Mull Hill) with best access along the Balnahowe road near the historic little village of Cregneash. Being one of the highest points on what is effectively a peninsula fine views surround you. The stunning view over Port Erin and Bradda through the hills to Niarbyl, the views to the Sound and the Calf of Man are amaizing. Meayll hill is not just a viewpoint though it has much history to impart. The Meayll Circle is an ancient cairn with 6 sets of 2 burial chambers built in a circle it's believed to date back over 1000 years. There have been finds from that period to medieval times on the hill. During the Second World War the Hill was the site of part of a network of "Chain Home" Radar stations with buildings and massive aerials. The foundations of those buildings and a couple of Pillboxes which would have been used to defend the installation still remain. More information on Chain home at Meayll Hill and the network on the island during the war can be found here: http://www.abc.org.im/BAR/BAR091%2020...
