The trader reacted on ECB sources which specified that the ECB was looking into conducting some form of Operation Twist with regards to the Reinvestments of maturing bonds. Specifically, the ECB hinted that it could reinvest the maturing purchases of its bond holdings more into the Long-end of the curve (i.e 10-30year Bonds) by conducting a Fed-style Operation Twist. Such an action from ECB would boost purchases of long-end bonds and reduce purchases of short-end bonds The Elite trader executed by buying Bund (German 10-year Bond) and Buxl (German 30-year Bond) while selling the Bobl (German 5-year Bond). The longer-end of the curve (Buxl) had the most aggressive reaction as it rallied over 150 ticks in 2 minutes while the short-end eventually sold off a few ticks.
