Fall garden update; September 26, 2025

Hello, this is Natalia from Suburban Mini Homestead. I am 52 years old. The gardening is my therapy, building rock pathways is my gym, the fountain rumbling is my nervous system reset, flowers, chickens and dogs are my friends, the Japanese garden that I have designed and built myself is my medicine; I have everything to enjoy life and be happy! Wish you the same ... I have planted green beans, turnips, carrots, beets, tromboncino squash, purple lady bock choy and lettuce at the end of July; Pretty much just tromboncino squash, green beans, and a couple plants of purple lady bock choy and lettuce survived; Either too much heat or slugs killed the rest of the seedlings; Also my mistake was I planted root vegetables too shallow; I will make a note in my journal and will try to avoid same mistake for spring garden; On the positive side I am really impressed with the plant that I have not heard of is tromboncino squash; Very prolific, pest resistant, gorgeous plant that I will FOR SURE plant next spring! also green beans are pretty good growing. I will plant them also next season; Purple lady bock choy is also on my list for the spring - gorgeous and delicious vegetable; I prepared my beds for fall and next spring last couple weeks; Found a source of organic fertilizer and rich compost; filled my raised beds with them; Tired but happy! The season of autumn asters and mums is here! love this time of the year and enjoy seating in my fireplace area next to my Japanese garden. HAPPY FALL YALL!
