For this purpose, on 2 October 2014, on the occasion of 145th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhiji, Honorable Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi started the cleanliness campaign from Rajghat in Delhi. The Ministry of Urban Development of the Central Government, State Government, Ministry of Rural Development, NGOs, Ministry of Drinking Water and Sanitation, Public Sector Undertakings and Corporations etc. are jointly running this campaign. Every citizen of the country should participate in this. Because of the garbage and filth, foreigners rarely like to visit our country. Hence our country suffers economic loss. The earth is also becoming polluted. Due to lack of education, man is unknowingly polluting the environment around him. In villages, people go to the fields or near the railway tracks to defecate. Many diseases are spreading due to this dirty environment. Due to increased population the use of resources is increasing. Hence the waste is increasing. People running small industries dump their waste material into nearby rivers and streams, which pollutes the entire environment. Therefore the living organisms get destroyed and the balance gets disturbed.
