Media Briefing: Officer-Involved Shooting at 2400 South Loop West I Houston Police

Assistant Chief Yasar Bashir provides details on an officer-involved shooting at 2400 South Loop West. Preliminary information: At approximately 7:00 am on Monday, October 27th, Houston Police received a call about a suspicious person with a weapon at an apartment complex at the above address. Officers arrived and met with a security guard who said a man had pointed a weapon at him. The security guard sprayed pepper spray at the suspect, who ran off and entered a vacant apartment. Officers went to that apartment and gave the suspect commands. The suspect at one point broke a window and put his hand out with what appeared to be a weapon. Officers discharged their duty weapons and continued giving commands for the suspect to exit the apartment. About five minutes later, the suspect came out and surrendered. He had gunshot injuries, so the officers immediately rendered aid. The suspect, a Black male in his 40's, was transported to the hospital in critical condition. UPDATE 10/28/25 10:29 am: The suspect, Darwish Wilson, 42, is charged with arson and burglary of a building in the 182nd Criminal District Court. HPD patrol officers responded to a call for service at an apartment complex at the above address. A security guard at the complex called 911 after trying to detain a male at that location suspected of burglarizing the leasing office earlier in the morning. The guard reported the suspect was armed with a pistol and was inside a vacant apartment. Officers went to the apartment unit and attempted to call the suspect out. The suspect refused to exit and began setting items on fire inside the apartment. Recognizing that he was attempting to set fire to the apartment building, officers attempted to enter the apartment, but the suspect had partially barricaded the door from the inside. Officers backed away and continued trying to communicate with the suspect. The suspect then pointed a weapon at officers through the front window blinds of the apartment. Five officers discharged their duty weapons, striking the suspect more than once. The suspect then agreed to drop his weapon and exited the apartment. Officers rendered medical aid and Houston Fire Department paramedics transported Mr. Wilson to an area hospital in stable condition. Anyone with additional information about the incident is urged to contact the HPD Homicide Division at 713-308-3600 or CrimeStoppers at 713-222-TIPS.
