In this video, I respond to @evasknittingpodcast's take on “bad” knitting patterns and dive deeper into why newer knitters who jump into designing often end up replicating flawed patterns. Think of it like a “pyramid scheme” or “iterative design”—each new version can worsen the errors- even when following in the footsteps of a perfect pattern, inexperienced designers can misunderstand the usage of various well-implemented pattern tools (like Domenika's use of red stitches to help knitters read their knitting while following her chart) and then using that tool in a less effective- or even worse- a confusing- way (like Eva's use of red border stitches, which don't look like part of the pattern at all). Let's workshop Eva's pattern together in the spirit of learning and improvement, and I'll share concrete ways beginners can level up their designing skills before releasing patterns, plus why hiring a tech editor can make all the difference. No judgment—just constructive guidance to keep our knitting community learning and thriving! ------------------------------ CHAPTERS 0:00 Intro & Recap of Previous Video 0:43 Eva’s Response & Key Points 1:19 The “Iterative Design” Problem 3:20 My Qualifications 3:37 Case Study: Ladybug Scarf 6:50 Why New Designers Need More Experience 11:19 How to Avoid Spreading Flaws 12:04 Recommended Resources & Reading 15:09 Importance of Tech Editors 16:13 Final Thoughts & Encouragement ------------------------------ RESOURCES MENTIONED: *Online Courses/Platforms* TKGA Knitting Design Course (https://tkga.org/knitwear-designer-ce...)
