The nature of healthcare is changing and is poised to change much more significantly in the coming years. The advances in our scientific understanding of the human body are becoming so complex as to be virtually incomprehensible to all but experts. The advances in technology are promising to alter radically what it means to be a healthcare professional. How should we as healthcare educators prepare our students for the future? Perhaps the key concept for answering this question is “care”. MUDr Jan Trnka is a Czech physician, researcher and educator, and currently the head of the Department of Biochemistry, Cell and Molecular Biology at Third Faculty of Medicine, Charles University. He completed his Ph.D. studies in Biochemistry as well as a Master's degree in History and Philosophy of Science at the University of Cambridge, UK. He also completed a Master's degree in Medical Education at Karolinska Institutet in Stockholm, Sweden. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community.
