Restoration of 1951 Vincent Rapide - Part 31 - Removing Clutch & Primary cover (Part 2)

Here's a playlist that contains all the videos working on the clutch:    • Projects | 1951 Vincent Rapide - Clutch   This is part 2 of the effort to remove and check the primary chain inside the primary case. It's turned into a bit of a project but feeling very good about the primary now. You may have seen that the primary chain adjuster (under the bottom left-hand side of the primary case) is screwed all the way in, indicating that the chain has become very slack. But in order to remove the primary cover to even get to the primary chain inside, the clutch must first be removed, unlike other bikes where the cover can simply be removed. There is a boss/housing in the primary cover in which the dry servo clutch resides. The boss/housing is intended to separate the dry clutch from the rest of the primary case in order to keep it free from oil. Getting the clutch out was a little tricky but very satisfying to finally remove it from the housing and remove the cover to expose the chain beneath! As you can see, the clutch housing looks nice and dry.. so hopefully that is a good indication that it's running without any oil leaks. There's a million articles on the Vincent servo clutch, but I'll save that for another day. I'm intending to ride the bike with this clutch before making any decisions about changing it for a modern design.
