S3E12 Social media is often framed as connection — but for many cancer survivors, it becomes a source of anxiety, comparison, distraction, and emotional overload. In this episode of Besties with Breasties, Sarah and Beth are joined by River, who quit social media years ago, to have an honest conversation about technology, attention, and mental health after cancer. Together, they explore how social media platforms are intentionally designed to be addictive, why scrolling rarely leaves us feeling better, and how constant digital stimulation affects relationships, parenting, sleep, and emotional well-being. They discuss the difference between technology and social media, why boundaries are so hard to maintain, and how fear of missing out keeps people stuck in unhealthy digital habits. The conversation also touches on cancer-specific issues, including online support groups, misinformation, and comparison during survivorship. This episode is not about shaming or deleting everything — it’s about awareness, intentionality, and reclaiming attention for the life happening right in front of you. In This Episode, We Discuss: -When social media first entered everyday life -How platforms are engineered to be addictive -Why scrolling often increases anxiety and comparison -The illusion of connection versus real connection -How technology impacts parenting and family relationships -Social media and cancer support groups -Why quitting or limiting social media feels scary -Practical ways to set healthier boundaries with tech -Why attention is one of your most valuable resources About Besties with Breasties & Faith Through Fire Faith Through Fire is a 501c3 Non-Profit.
