Professor Dr. Javed Akram, a highly esteemed Professor of Medicine in Pakistan, currently serves as the Minister of Health, Govt of Punjab, Pakistan. He has made significant contributions to medical science, authoring six books and over 400 research papers with an accumulative impact factor of over 700, the highest for a clinician in Pakistan. His work spans various roles, including clinician, laboratory researcher, medical educationist, and health delivery administrator. Currently, Professor Dr. Akram holds the dual role of Minister for Health and Minister for Social Welfare, Bait Ul Maal, in the Government of Punjab. He is the founding Vice Chancellor of Shaheed Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto Medical University, established in 2013, where he has significantly contributed to organizing its structure and elevating its standards. Under his leadership, the university offers structured residency training programs in various medical disciplines and advanced degrees in basic medical sciences. Previously, as Principal of Allama Iqbal Medical College and Chief Executive of Jinnah Hospital, Lahore, he set a precedent in providing 100% free medical care and expanded hospital specialties significantly. His efforts include establishing diverse medical departments and introducing both medico-legal and non-medico legal autopsy protocols. Professor Dr. Akram's role in global health extends to serving as Chairman of the WHO Guideline/Expert Committee. His work in leveraging Corporate Social Responsibility has resulted in numerous MOUs, generating substantial funds for various institutions. For his exemplary services and research, Professor Dr. Akram has received numerous prestigious awards, including the Prime Minister’s Gold Medal for Parkinson’s disease research, the Best Research Award by the National Academy of Medical Sciences, and the Tamgha-i-Imtiaz from the President of Pakistan.
