Advancements in Advanced Stage Ovarian Cancer Management: Precision Medicine and Expert Insights

Join us for an insightful discussion on the current management strategies in advanced stage ovarian cancer and the role of precision medicine. Ovarian cancer ranks fifth in cancer deaths among women, surpassing all other cancers of the female reproductive system. The statistics reveal that a woman's risk of developing ovarian cancer during her lifetime is approximately 1 in 78, with a lifetime chance of dying from ovarian cancer being about 1 in 108. (Note: these statistics do not include low malignant potential ovarian tumors.) This form of cancer predominantly affects older women, with around half of the diagnoses occurring in women aged 63 or older. Furthermore, ovarian cancer is more prevalent in White women compared to Black women. Over the past two decades, there has been a gradual decline in the diagnosis rate of ovarian cancer, with an annual decline of 1% to 2% from 1990 to the mid-2010s and nearly 3% per year from 2015 to 2019. This decline is attributed, at least in part, to increased use of oral contraceptives and reduced usage of menopausal hormone therapy, both of which contribute to lowering the risk. Ovarian cancer mortality has also witnessed a decline, with a decrease from 2% annually in the 2000s and early 2010s to over 3% annually from 2016 to 2020. This decline reflects both the reduced incidence and improved treatment options.
