Day 1 of 2021 Roanoke River Solo Paddle from Hwy 48 Boat Ramp, through Weldon rapids, to Tillery Platform - of total trip, miles 0 to 21.1. ============ For Roanoke River Platform reservations: https://www.roanokeriverpartners.org/ ============ Had question from viewer - which channel, which rapids? The rapids in Weldon run was between large rocks in river and maybe 40 to 50 yards of Weldon Boat Ramp. My commentary of taking creek to the "left" was for creek starting above I-95 and rejoining the main River upstream of Hwy 301. I then took the biggest water, and best rapid as I saw the water during my paddle. Excerpt from Paddling Eastern North Carolina by Paul Ferguson states, "The rapid is usually a Class III at 2,000 – 4,000 cfs...". For my run of the rapids, water level was 3200 cfs and I would agree with Class III. Question was which rapids? My best is a run about 40 - 50 yards from the SE bank (right bank headed downstream) with Boat Ramp in view.
