Joan Baez sings 'A Song For David' from her 1970 Vanguard album 'One Day At A Time'. This album features many great country musicians. The song lyrics are listed below with some notes on the album. [Vinyl/27-Images/WAV] A Song For David Singer - Joan Baez In my heart I will wait By the stony gate And the little one In my arms will sleep. Every rising of the moon Makes the years grow late And the love in our hearts will keep. There are friends I will make And bonds I will break As the seasons roll by And we build our own sky. In my heart I will wait By the stony gate And the little one In my arms will sleep. The stars in your sky Are the stars in mine And both prisoners Of this life are we. Through the same troubled waters We carry our time, You and the convict and me. There's a good thing to know On the outside or in, To answer not where But just who I am. Cause the stars in your sky Are the stars in mine And both prisoners Of this life are we. The hills that you know Will remain for you And the little willow green Will stand firm. The flowers that we planted Through the seasons past Will all bloom On the day you return. To a baby at play All a mother can say, He'll return on the wind To our hearts, and till then I will sit and I'll wait By the stony gate And the little one 'Neath the trees will dance. Songwriter: Joan Baez © Sony/ATV Music Publishing LLC [Lyrics from LyricFind] Some of the album personnel were Joan Baez on vocals, guitar; Pete Drake pedal steel guitar; Roy Huskey, Jr. bass guitar; Jerry Reed guitar; Hargus "Pig" Robbins piano; Harold Rugg steel guitar, dobro; Grady Martin guitar, dobro, sitar; Kenny Buttrey drums; and Charlie McCoy armonica, vibraphone, organ. Wikipedia states: One Day at a Time is a 1970 album by Joan Baez. Recorded in Nashville, the album was a continuation of Baez' experimentation with country music, begun with the previous year's David's Album. It is significant in that it was the first to include Baez' own compositions, "Sweet Sir Galahad" and "A Song for David", the former song a ballad for her younger sister Mimi Fariña, and the latter song being for her then husband, David Harris, at the time in prison as a conscientious objector. One Day at a Time also included work by The Rolling Stones, Willie Nelson and Pete Seeger. The album contains three of the songs Baez had performed at Woodstock four months earlier: "I Live One Day At A Time","Joe Hill" and "Sweet Sir Galahad".
