Sertac Karaman is the Associate Professor of Aeronautics and Astronautics at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). He is also a co-founder and the President of the self-driving company Optimus Ride. He is the director of the Foundations of Autonomous Systems Technology Group at MIT. He is the recipient of the IEEE Robotics and Automation Society Early Career Award in 2017, Office of Naval Research Young Investigator Award in 2017, Army Research Office Young Investigator Award in 2015, National Science Foundation (NSF) Faculty Career Development (CAREER) Award in 2014. His team is behind the organization of the Alpha Pilot Autonomous Drone Racing challenge and the MIT RACECAR scale autonomous vehicle initiative.
