I know it’s a triggering subject for some, but pet owners need to know they have options. A spay-abort is not a procedure any veterinarian enjoys doing, but sometimes it’s necessary for the best interest of pets. Some reasons why abortion may be decided on by the vet and owner: The pregnancy was not planned The owner does not want to add to the pet overpopulation The female dog is too young or old to be having a litter Fetal-maternal size mismatch: the fetuses are too big for the female to safely carry or birth The owner didn’t know the pet was (early) pregnant until the spay The owner is unable to financially or feasibly care for a litter Contrary to what some pet owners may think, dogs and cats do NOT want or need to have babies to be happy and healthy. Some dogs and cats will even eat their own babies if they are stressed! Not many owners are able to care for a litter of puppies or kittens, especially if the mother rejects them and they all have to be hand-fed every 2 hours. Not to mention the financial strain of vaccinating, deworming, and caring for the pets until they can be adopted. Accidents happen, and if puppies and kittens weren’t planned for, in some cases it is safer for the pet and more responsible of the owner to terminate a pregnancy instead of adding to the pet overpopulation. #abortion #spayabort #animals #pets #nature #education #puppies #kittens #dogs #cats #anatomy #prolife #prochoice #biology #physiology #vet #vetmed #veterinarian #veterinary #medicine #veterinarymedicine #veterinaria #medical #doctor #premed #prevet #vettech
