EMILY and I decided to come back to the Washougal and give it another run at higher water than before. The last time we ran it it was running at 2300 CSF, today it was running at 4300 CSF. The river was significantly larger overall with many of the smaller features being completely eliminated and many of the holes becoming quite massive. We scouted big Eddy from the road and decided we would definitely take the sneak line on the right side. I’m thankful that we did. There’s a massive hole in the center of the rapid, which would be very difficult to navigate. There were several additional holes and mean boils and eddy lines throughout the course of the river. Sometimes it was difficult to determine if they were holes or waves from the water level. Hopefully this video will help you if you’re considering the river. I think this is about as high as I would ever run this section in a kayak.
