Rep. Jamie Raskin, D-Md., spoke as House impeachment managers and former President Donald Trump’s defense team delivered closing arguments in the second impeachment trial for Trump, who is charged with inciting the Jan. 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol. Raskin refuted points raised by Trump’s defense team, including his lawyers’ claim that there is no legal precedent that supports convicting Trump. “I suppose that’s true,” Raskin said, “because it never occurred to any other president of the United States -- from George Washington to John Adams to Thomas Jefferson, James Madison to James Monroe to Abraham Lincoln to Ronald Reagan to George W. Bush to Barack Obama -- to incite a violent insurrection against the union. You're right, we've got no precedent for that.” House impeachment managers and Trump’s defense team offered their final statements in the impeachment trial on Feb. 13. Trump was impeached by the House in January, while he was still in office.
