This a 1950 documentary about rebuilding Europe after WW2, hosted by actor Leo Genn. Title card: British Board of Film Censors (:07-:18). Title card: I Went Back featuring Leo Genn (:19-:43). Leo Genn, an actor and former soldier, introduces this doc. He talks about going back to Europe after the war (:44-1:29). Footage of bombed out buildings. People cheer peace. Cities in ruins. Cemeteries. Soldiers head home (1:30-2:49). A plane flies. Leo Genn sits in a comfortable plane (2:50-3:31). Happy European streets. Denmark ports are busy now. Leo surveys a Denmark port. The streets of Scandinavia are alive again and business is booming. Elsinore Ship yard known in Denmark as Helsingor. Besides the seaports of Denmark, Leo visits the inland areas as well. A tractor plows a field. Denmark looks good these days. A visit to see new tractors on display (3:32-6:37). Austria, so long under the reign of the nazis, has rejoined Europe. Vienna looks good these days, the former splendor is back. Many people have fled due to WW2. Austria's youth do not know war but the statue of the Unknown Russian Soldier is a reminder. From a hill, see the entire city below (6:38-8:31). Rome is next. Leo traverses the city. The new railway station is up. Workmen clean rubble and sand. Leo looks out over the city. Italy is busy these days. Vatican City is visited. Leo likes seeing the city war free. Along the way where Caesar marched his troops. A visit to the Rome Colosseum (8:32-12:47). Athens, Greece is next visited. The Acropolis of Athens is a sight to behold. Leo climbs the ruins. The city was spread out below (12:48-14:18). Drive to an Athens port. Men walk around. Fish piled up. Dried octopus. Greece is rising again (14:19-15:56). Leo sums up how Europe is thriving again. Leo stands on a shore (15:57-16:32). End credits: The End (16:33-16:48). He is perhaps best known for his role as Petronius in the 1951 film Quo Vadis, which earned him an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor nomination.
