Both are the hardware interfaces that are used to connect storage drives in the older computers. In the older computers, pata hard disk drive, optical disk drive and floppy disk drive were used as a medium of storage. Pata cables were used for hard drives and optical disk drives but for floppy disk drive a different kind of cable was used called floppy cable that looked lot like pata cable. Now let's see what are the differences between them. Pata cable has a total of 40 pins in its connector and 40 or 80 conductors in it's ribbon cable but floppy cable has only 34 pins in it's connector and 34 conductors in the ribbon cable. Generally Pata cable has coloured connectors. one with blue, one with white and one with black but floppy cable has only black connectors. Pata connectors and ports are bigger than Floppy cable but the pata cable is shorter than floppy cable. Pata cable is just 18 inch long. Floppy cable has a twist at the end of the cable that attaches to the drive. But there has no any kind of twist in the pata cable. While One Pata cable can have a maximum of three connectors, one floppy cable may have a maximum of 5 connectors. But each of them can support only upto two drives at a time.
