Before Homo habilis, the earliest member of our genus, evolved in the Early Pleistocene, the world was in the Pliocene Epoch. The Pliocene lasted from roughly five point three to two point five million years ago, and, while the remote African forests were home to our early australopithecine ancestors, this was a world where large carnivores and hoofed mammals reigned supreme. During the Pliocene the world had begun to get cooler and drier, and clear seasons were established. Sea levels across the world were around twenty five metres, or eighty two feet higher than they are today, and the world was between two and three degrees celsius warmer, on average. As the world cooled even more towards the start of the Pleistocene, glaciers and ice sheets began to form over the north pole, and the stage was set for the eventual Ice Age after. 0:00 Intro 1:40 Europe 7:48 Asia 11:50 Africa 16:44 Oceania 20:03 North America 25:40 South America 31:17 Outro Narrated by: Will Chamberlin / @willchaudio Edited by Jamit Productions Thank you for watching.
