ABOUT A sewing tutorial designed by @downtothelastsparkle focussed on learning to sew with stretch fabrics (lycra). It is a step by step tutorial with audio voiceover on how to make a scrunchie. It is a perfect beginners tutorial. INSTAGRAM https://www.instagram.com/lauralovestosew and https://www.instagram.com/downtothelastspa... CREDITS AND THANKS Music: With thanks to bensound.com. License code: VO5AI6TAL8OKY9Y8 Artist: Benjamin Tissot. Fabric: The fabric used in the tutorial was kindly gifted to me by www.funkifabrics.com (UK based) Thanks to: @NorthernVikingEveryday and their incredible tutorials and to https://pixabay.com for their online graphics resources PATTERN DIMENSIONS 25cm x 10cm (Approximately 9inches x 4inches) You can adjust the pattern if needed. To make it fuller, retain the 20cm elastic length but add to the length. SUPPLY LIST AND NOTES Tissue paper for the pattern. Ensure it is lightweight. Use a plain paper such as which tissue paper so that the fabric does not mark. Ruler. Any ruler will do. Stretch sewing machine needle Flat head pins. Use in the seams as much as possible Wonderclips. Use these for holding things in place where possible instead of pins Thread. I used a thread with a slight contrast for the purposes of the tutorial. It is a Moon thread which I use out of preference. Pattern weights. You can use other things, but if you are thinking about working with stretch regularly, these are a great investment. Good quality scissors. I prefer scissors, but a great quality rotary cutter and a mat is a good alternative if this is your preference. Safety pins. Any will do but I do love working with curved quilting pins, I just find them easier. Elastic. I used black elastic in this tutorial for the purposes of visibility. Per scrunchie you will need at 20cm length. This elastic was 10mm knit elastic. Others are fine. Use chlorine resistant elastic if you can if you are using in a pool. This is a tutorial designed by me, Laura, a self taught sewer who has been on a journey learning to sew with stretch and other costume fabrics to make costumes and ballroom and latin american dresses for my children, myself, friends and family. The Scrunchie tutorial is for those looking to take the first steps. It would be suitable for use in the dance world and dance schools, fashion for personal use, costumes or for groups who dance as a team, cheer squads, gymnastics, dance practice and is perfect for gifting. If you are new to sewing with stretch or already do and just want to have someone quickly go through the dimensions and steps, this is the perfect tutorial for you. As I grown the number of videos and shorts on this channel, I am hoping to share my learning and what I continue to learn with you. I would love it if you felt inspired to try your own make, just as I did, however small. If you do, I will there there from the first stitch right down to the last sparkle. Good luck! Laura x
