Danila Poperechny is Russia’s first mega-popular comedian whose career and success were never tied to television or mainstream TV comedy. Poperechny is definitely the first who made sharp, uncensored political satire an important part of stand-up comedy. He is one of the few who, in 2022, sharply and unequivocally condemned the war in Ukraine and, in 2023, did not retract his statements.
