Danila Poperechny is Russia’s first mega-popular comedian whose career and success were never tied to television or mainstream TV comedy. Poperechny is definitely the first who made sharp, uncensored political satire an important part of stand-up comedy. He is one of the few who, in 2022, sharply and unequivocally condemned the war in Ukraine and, in 2023, did not retract his statements. Less than a year ago, Poperechny moved to Los Angeles with his wife and their dog. We went there to see how Danila lives and to talk about what he thinks and feels and what he means when he says he is not giving up on his plans to return to Russia. Disclaimer: there are a lot of obscenities in this video; If it hurts you, please don't watch it. #tellgordeeva #poperechny Contents: 0:00 Why Los Angeles? 2:13 What else is great about it? 4:04 "I speak Ukrainian" — what connects Poperechny with Kyiv 7:28 "My mother crossed the Ukrainian-Russian border on the night of February 23rd to 24th" 9:36 "My mother is a Russian citizen with a Ukrainian son" 10:41 Another way to organize personal life 14:06 Why Poperny removed his anti-war video from YouTube 18:45 Leaving Russia.
