En Sourdine from Fetes Galantes by Claude Debussy Soprano: Anna Moffo Pianist: Jean Casadesus 1971 Sorry that the audio quality isn't perfect. This is a slideshow of my paintings. Nos. 1-14 and 16 are watercolor and 15, 17 and 18 are acrylic. 1. The Parting of the Clouds (I used a still from the 1946 film "The Yearling" where the Baxters are looking over their ruined crop after the storm. I think that image alone earned the Oscar for Best Colored Cinematography. If you've seen the film, you'll know what I mean.) 2. The Dance of the Whooping Cranes (This wasn't in the film but it was in the book so I used my imagination.) 3. Topsail Beach (This is based on a photograph I took during my vacation in Topsail Beach, Florida.) 4. The Cloisters from "The Nun's Story" (1959) 5. Cottonfield (This is a field facing my neighborhood) 6. Plate of Olives (This was from a calendar.) 7. Cows in the Pasture (I was at the farm of a friend, that day.) 8. Sister Philippa in the Garden from "Black Narcissus" (1947) (This is one of my favorites because of the details in the terraces and wide variety of colors.) 9. A Beach Scene (I can't remember where I took the photograph for this one.) 10. Alma at the Angel Fountain from "Summer and Smoke" (1961) (I consider it my magnum opus because I nailed the eerie Gothic atmosphere of the scene. I love the shades of gray and brown on the fountain and the mysterious way the bushes fade into the mist.) 11. Maria Preparing for her Wedding from "The Sound of Music" (1965) 12. Nonberg Abbey (Also from "The Sound of Music.") 13. Irises. 14. Spiderwort. 15. Topsail Beach 2. (This was from another photograph I took during my vacation. It's one of my favorites because I did my utmost to add as many shades of brown, green and blue as possible.) 16. Birch Trees from "A Passage to India." (1984) 17. Sliced Radishes (Although, I can easily understand why some people might mistake them for watermelon.) 18. Still Life with Flowers and Ostrich (The only composition in this set, taken directly from observation.)
