The upcoming Renault Clio for next year will introduce the brand’s new, curvy “Latin” design, revitalizing the supermini’s sporty, iconic reputation in an effort to maintain its position in the small car sales rankings. Our unique images showcase what the new model might appear like. Reviving two “legendary icons” – the electric Renault 5 compact hatchback and 4 SUV – has allowed the French automaker to update the designs of its “future icons”, according to Renault Group’s design head Laurens van den Acker in an interview with Auto Express. The Clio – introduced 35 years ago and soon entering its sixth generation – is among Renault’s three iconic models, alongside the Scenic and Espace, which helped to popularize the multi-purpose vehicle concept in Europe. “Our goal is to create design icons – though that will only be determined in 30 years,” stated Gilles Vidal, head of design for the Renault brand. “Using the Clio next generation, we can create sleek, contemporary Latin cars,” van den Acker noted. “We can elevate the allure and sensual appeal, making these cars appear highly desirable in a contemporary fashion.” This dual strategy for the product line – renowned classics and upcoming classics – supports every facet of the manufacturer’s product development, including design, vehicle platform, and powertrains. Owners of the R4 and R5 can exclusively select electric power, while the 2026 Clio will continue to use petrol/hybrid power. "[This approach] enables us to present a clear dual offer to customers, ensuring that the two do not compete with [each other’s sales]," stated the head of design for the group. “It wouldn’t be logical to create a fully electric Renault 5 and Clio.” "We need to be cautious to avoid designing vehicles that have similarities," van den Acker remarked.
