"The Farmers' protest and the Modi govt's response to it has held it in a catch 22 situation. While on one hand, there is tremendous discontent against Modi govt among farmers and the opposition has also attacked the Modi govt, on the other, even the own alliance partners of the NDA headed by BJP are warning the Modi govt over new Farm laws. The Shiromani Akali Dal, one of the oldest alliance partners of the BJP had quit earlier when the farm laws were enacted. Harsimrat Kaur Badal had resigned from the Modi cabinet. NDA ally in Rajasthan RLP's Hanuman Beniwal also warned the govt over farmers' protest. He is even taking part in the Rajasthan Farmers' Delhi Chalo march today. But where BJP faces the most threat is Haryana. The Farmers' Protest has been going on for as many as 3 weeks now. The stand-off between the farmers and the government doesn't seem to end yet. Five rounds of talks between the farmers and the govt have failed. The Farmers have been demanding a complete repeal of the Farm laws but the modi govt has said that they will make amendments but will not roll back the laws completely. The minimum support price for the crop is also one of the issues that the farmers have cited with the farm bills. Now most of the protesting farmers are from Punjab and Haryana. While Punjab has Congress govt, Haryana has BJP govt.
