Sorry that the footage in this video is a bit shaky at times. Since the intended location was closed, I had to quickly switch to a rented rowboat, which was forbidden to get out of. Manufacturer: Bushnell Optical, Pasadena (USA) / Made by Tamron Co. Ltd., Tokyo (Japan) Application: Civil Era: 1960s Magnification: 7x Objective Lens Size: 35mm Field of View: 11° - 192m at 1000m Specifics: The first versions of the Bushnell Rangemaster 7x35 were produced by Fuji in the 1950s. In the 1960s, a completely new version of the Rangemaster was produced by Tamron. Unlike the first versions, it had a field of view of 11° and an absolutely radical design, which was borrowed from the Bushnell Custom series. In an interview with Richard Buchroeder and Peter Abrahams in 1999, David Pearsall Bushnell said about the Rangemaster Model: "There is one by Fuji and the later one by Tamron, the slope shoulder model. Either we weren't buying enough from Fuji or some other reason, I think it was the quantity that was a problem. The Rangemaster was not based on any previous design. It was just the best they could produce. We always told them that they should make the best they could produce, and we would pay for it. That was the difference between our purchases and the other companies that went over there, they tried to get the cheapest." Question by the Interviewer: "Was the Rangemaster used by the military in Vietnam, as claimed in Bushnell ads?" David Pearsall Bushnell: "I was aware only that the counter-intelligence people in Vietnam used them, and they only bought them in small quantities, 50 or 100." David Pearsall Bushnell sold his company in 1972. Until today the Bushnell company sells binoculars which are imported from China and Japan. There is some information about the different Rangemaster models on the Fantao website: http://web.archive.org/web/2008100608... I tried to make a list of all the (real) wide-angle binoculars available. Here I have only listed binoculars that have at least a 6x magnification and a field of view of at least 9 degrees.
