Oil Palm Tree

Oil palm trees bear fruits after 30 months of field planting. It can grow up to 60 feet or more in height. It continues to be productive for the next 20 to 30 years, ensuring a consistent supply of oils. On an average, one oil palm tree can produce about 19 bunches of fruits commonly known as Fresh Fruit Bunch (FFB), weighing between 10 to 25 kilograms with 1000 to 3000 fruits per bunch. In Malaysia the oil palm trees planted are the Tenera variety (a cross between the Dura and Pisifera), and yields about 4 to 5 tonnes of Crude Palm Oil (CPO) per hectare per year. The oil palm is the most efficient oil bearing crop in the world, providing up to 10 times more oil per hectare of land compared to other crops.
