The Hästens Sydney Showroom reflects the craftsmanship and heritage of the Swedish bedmaker while solidifying its new home in Sydney’s Paddington. The design of a dreamy, standalone, three-level showroom was crafted alongside Scandinavian furniture specialist Great Dane and local architect Michael Robilliard. “We ended up with quite a unique space, one that is still at its core, Hästens, but reflects the place where it exists, which is Sydney, Australia,” says Anton Assaad, managing director at Great Dane. “It feels at home here, and I think Hästens belongs here.” The showroom is located on Oxford Street, a bustling hub where design, culture and dining intersect. “It's got a great feeling about it. We felt it would be the perfect location to have the flagship showroom for Hästens,” notes Assaad. The design of a dreamy showroom begins at the entrance, which, in this case, takes one on a journey of the history of the brand, with a “heritage wall” that features photographs of the six generations of the Hästens family. “Hästens started in 1852 as a saddle market,” recalls Johan Lindbäck, chief sales officer at Hästens. “The unique thing about craftsmanship at Hästens is that it's passed down by traditions. We have people working and building beds that were there in 1991, so we pass on the quality and details in everything we do.” After passing the touching design of a dreamy heritage wall, one comes to a floor made with blue and white check tiles brought over from Europe. “For us, that's a way of stepping you into the world of Hästens, right from the start,” says Assaad. The door handle is covered in a leather from Sweden, complemented by beautiful Swedish leather chairs. One is then met with different coloured bed linen and various pillows before walking through to a mezzanine that houses the Grand Vividus headboard – the pinnacle of Hästens. “Then you can walk downstairs to the basement, which is a very traditional Hästens showroom with blue and white check,” explains Assaad. “And that room has a kind of feeling unto itself. I think that feels like a real escape.” To reflect the European brand’s expertise, the design of a dreamy showroom must consider personalisation. And so, an elevator takes one upstairs to a much softer and calmer space. “Some people don't have blackout curtains and some people do. So, there are lots of little touches that we've put in the showroom to ensure we can personalise the bed experience for each customer, to ensure that when they're laying down in the bed, they're actually getting a real true sense of what it is to sleep in a Hästens bed,” says Assaad. The design of a dreamy showroom for the European brand feels at once Australian and Swedish. “I feel proud. We are in Australia … but when stepping into the store, I feel like I’m at home,” reflects Lindbäck. 00:00 - Introduction to the dreamy sleep studio 01:35 - Connecting to the Hästens Swedish heritage 02:58 - A walkthrough of the showroom 04:03 - The iconic blue Hästens check 04:26 - Reflections on the collaboration For more from The Local Project: Instagram – / thelocalproject Website – https://thelocalproject.com.au/ LinkedIn – / the-local-project-publication Print Publication – https://thelocalproject.com.au/public...
