#travelgeorgia Gergeti Trinity Church is a Georgian Orthodox Christian Church in the village of Stepensminda. It was built in the 14th century. It’s on top of the steep Gergeti Mountain. It is next to Mount Kazbegi which has an elevation of 5047 meters. The Russia-Georgia Friendship Monument: This monument was built in 1983 to celebrate the 200th year anniversary of the Treaty of Georgievsk, the alliance treaty signed by King Erekle II of Georgia and Queen Catherine II of Russia in 1783. This is one monument that the Georgian people did not destroy after the collapse of the Soviet Union in 1991. We were informed that, practically all monuments or sculptures that reminded Georgians of Soviet rule were destroyed in 1991 when Georgia gained independence from the Soviet government.
