Quick gold paint for props. More durable, better looking than gold spray-paint. Easier than Alclad

I figured out a good midground paint between gold spray paint and easier than my gold method with Alclad chrome. This isn't as good as spray chrome but makes a nice finish for props that need to be on camera, where reflections are typically too strong for extremely reflective items. This also lets the prop be handled without dulling the metalic finish, something that happens with gold spray-paints. This is the basic rundown of how I did this... My base coat is Rustoleum, "Bright Coat Chrome" spray paint. I would recommend sanding the surface to at least a 400 grit quality before spraying. Do NOT handle the part in a way that touches the painted surface before applying the acrylic top coat. Here's my basic mix for the gold tint... Gloss acrylic varnish (I used Deco Art, High Gloss Varnish for this one) Food coloring NOT GEL!!! this is important. Gel colors will not dry properly. The ratio used was roughly equivalent to 4oz clear acrylic 16 drops yellow 1 drop red (still might be slightly too red) I thinned the mixture by adding roughly 20% water then sprayed though a cheap Harbor Freight spray gun like this one https://www.harborfreight.com/air-too... IF you can, I'd recommend spraying a coat of automotive 2k urethane clear-coat over the surface. This is not necessary but it will further improve the clearness of the tinted coat which will improve reflective qualities a bit plus provide an extra layer of protection and make the weathering process (if you choose to weather the parts) easier and more forgiving than weathering directly on acrylic, which can be overly grabby.
