Learn more https://ecs.page.link/QjC21 Instructions • Palpate the spinous process of T1 using one finger. • Move your finger approximately 1 inch (2.5 centimeters) laterally to identify the transverse processes of the thoracic vertebra. • Continue to follow these steps as you move down the spine until all transverse processes of the thoracic spine have been palpated. You should feel a subtle bony projection through the soft tissue under your fingers. Note Identification of the transverse process of a particular vertebral level can be somewhat difficult because the transverse processes are not at the same level as the spinous processes in the thoracic spine. To palpate a specific transverse process, follow these steps: • Palpate the spinous process at the desired level with the first digit (thumb) of one hand. • Place the thumb of your other hand 1 inch (2.5 centimeters) lateral to the spinous process being palpated. • Using a posterior-to-anterior force, push on the transverse process felt under your thumb. • Repeat these steps on the next few levels above and below until motion is felt under the thumb palpating the spinous process.
