California unemployment update: should you call the CA EDD if your claim says: pending, reopen claim, maximum benefits paid, disqualified, not paid or you are asked to reapply and file a new claim for unemployment benefits? There are a few situations where you really should call the CA EDD to help move your claim along, other times when calling the CA EDD isn't needed or it is likely that you will still be told to wait and times when calling isn't necessary but may still help move your claim along faster. Many unemployment claims are being flagged for the way you answer the weekly certification questions when you certify for benefits even if nothing has changed from the way you have always answered and the EDD may need to schedule a determination interview for your claim. Do call the EDD if you see any of these messages on your UI Online homepage: Disqualified - you may need to file an appeal with the EDD and will want to start that process ASAP Not Paid Pending (but only if you have been pending for more than 72 hours, you have not been asked to upload ID documentation and your claim balance was not 0 before 12/26) The EDD can help with these issues: Removing the reopen claim button so that you can certify for benefits (your claim may remain pending and not paid if there are other issues on your account like a suspension of claim) If you hit the reopen claim button and can certify for current weeks but you were not allowed to certify for earlier weeks or they are missing for you to certify for benefits altogether. The EDD might be able to help with the following issue if you get the right customer service rep: Adding the additional 11 weeks of PEUC, PUCX, PEUCX, the second PEUC extension but just as frequently people are being told to wait and this will automatically update When it is very unlikely that the CA EDD will be able to move your claim forward: If you are outside of your current benefit year, if your FED-ED is over and you have been asked to reapply or file a new unemployment claim. They may be able to help you file a new claim but that might be the extent of what they are able to help you with. If you were on PUA unemployment or the PEUC extension and your claim had a 0 dollar balance before 12/26. You are part of phase 2 and the CA EDD hasn't indicated when phase 2 will will update. If you are pending and the CA EDD has not had a chance to lift the suspension of claim notice from your account even if you got confirmation that you were verified by id.me, the EDD still needs to receive the verification and remove the suspension.
