Preparing for the next pandemic by H.E Dr. Jean Kaseya, Director General of Africa CDC

The Director-General of Africa Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Doctor Jean Kaseya is in South Africa to meet President Cyril Ramaphosa in his capacity as the Chair of the African Union COVID-19 Commission. Kaseya was appointed in this new position in February, to oversee the delivery of Africa CDC's objectives as per its mandate. These include establishing event-based surveillance to detect potential disease threats and supporting African countries' public health emergency preparedness and response, among others. Also, equipment worth $700 was handed over to the South African Health Products Regulatory Authority in line with the African Union's goal to develop Africa's capacity to manufacture, produce, and supply over 60% of the total vaccine doses on the continent by 2040, up from the current 1%. Africa Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Dr. Jean Kaseya joins us in the studio to discuss some of Africa's activities currently underway in its preparation and response strategy for the next pandemic.
