Peak Filter automation is a powerful style of filter automation because it allows you to emphasize a very small frequency section of a sound to create movement. Peak filter automation is a semi advanced technique in that usually we're achieving this type of sound with the filter directly on a synth, but when you use a band filter on an eq, it gives you a very flexible layer of control in your sound. It might seem unusual from a mix perspective to do something like this because it can create a imbalances in the sound, but that's where things like multiband compression and compression become your friend.
